Here it is ……. But first lets accept it’s not everyones cup of tea. Although it has been voted the best xmas song ever, and I totally agree. This song brings back many great memories of getting pissed up around xmas with mates and all of us swaying (from music and beer) and singing along. This post is not to plug the song, it’s about what the BBC tried to do this week in the form of PC gone mad again. But first take a look and then I’ll explain …

Ok, well in their wisdom, this year the BBC, specifically Radio 1, decided to censor the song !!!!! WTF !!! They decided this line may offend some people “You scumbag, you maggot, you cheap lousy faggot.”

WTF WTF WTF, how can the word “faggot” suddenly become offensive this year??? Was it Ok to say “faggot” last year?? What changed this year? And how come its Ok to say “arse” but not “faggot”? After all the “faggot’s” being offended love a bit of “arse” so that should be censored too, right !!!!

So anyway I was driving home and heard about this crazy thing on the radio. I was amazed and disappointed, but I have a long drive home …. by the time I was home the top guy from Radio 1 was on air saying he was reversing the decision !!!! LOL !!!! People had complained so much that the BBC listened and changed their minds. Good. It’s a great song and is not designed to offend anyone, so stop playing God BBC Radio 1 and just play the damn music !!!!!

1987, Christmas hit, Fairytale of New York.

Interesting question that one. I heard it asked on the wireless the other night (for those youngsters out there … a wireless refers to a radio, not an Internet tech). My grandparents had a great wireless, it was cutting edge, completely wire free and you powered it by winding it up periodically … but i digress.

I’m sure most people have experienced time slowing down when something dramatic happens in their life. I have a few times. It does feel like you enter a slow motion state for a few seconds. This must be when people say their lives flash before them. Time must slow down if their whole life passes before their eyes !!!!

Is this effect produced by your brain speeding up and making time slow down? Or maybe time is relative to an individual and not to the universe. Or maybe we can never understand things like this, the human is not evolved enough yet to work these things out.

Personally I’m not a great believer in the whole concept of time.  At the end of the day (a sarcastic time reference) time is something invented by humans to help them make sense of life. I doubt there is very much that humans have got right in the context of existence, so I doubt time exists at all. It’s just something like religion, made up by humans to help them get through life.

So I don’t really care if time slows down or not. I don’t really care about much actually. I’m a laid back sort of guy, who watches the world go by.

I am dreading Christmas this year. 2007 is the year I join the thousands who do not look forward to it for one reason or another. As a kid I loved it, as most kids do. As a parent I loved it even more, as most parents probably do.

My excitement builds through the excitement of my kids I guess. As the big day approaches their innocence, hopes and joy build up to the best experience of watching them open the gifts that Father Christmas has left them by the tree. Those moments are better than any gift I ever received. For me that’s what Christmas is all about.

This year my kids are thousands of miles away and for the first time in 8 years I will not get to see them, cuddle them, laugh with them or play with them. It’s a horrible thought but it’s how it will be, this year, I will be alone.

I hoped I would be spending Christmas with another I love. But that is not going to happen now for various reasons. That would have been amazing, but it won’t happen. I have the offer of going to my sisters for Christmas day, which I probably will take up. But although this will be nice, it will just remind me more of what I am missing out on. So I will go and It will be nice, but it won’t really be Christmas to me.

In my mind Christmas is canceled this year. I will work most of it, just have Christmas day and boxing day off. But next year, next year I will make it up to my kids, and give them the best Christmas I can. I will buy them gifts or course, but just being together will be better than the gifts. Well I hope they see it that way, I’m sure they will. I see the sadness in their eyes each week on the webcam, the sadness that makes it hard to be away from them. But life can be cruel, and life is cruel.

Christmas resumes next year, 2008 will be the best Christmas ever, I will make sure of it.

Ok so I’m correct and it’s not easy to understand how that works is it. But for all the numbers in the world and all the problems we as humans solve, we have never answered the big questions

Who are we? Why are we here? Where did we come from and What is the point of our existance?

This story is obviously disturbing. But hey the guy was in alone, doors locked, so leave him alone, each to their own. Was he framed for this? Was he geared up with suitable rubber? Did they ring the bell before entering? Do we all have to tread carefully now at home in case they brake our door down to our pad? Do we need to chain our doors?
